Fortnite games and game modes

We design, build and operate Fortnite games and custom game modes, made in Unreal Editor for Fortnite, from first concept through launch and live updates.

How Fortnite games are made, and who they reach

What Unreal Editor for Fortnite is

UEFN is Epic Games’ official toolset for building custom islands and game modes that run inside Fortnite itself. Islands are authored in a purpose-built version of Unreal Editor and scripted in Verse, Epic’s programming language for the platform. The finished island is published to Fortnite and played in the Fortnite client.

How players actually find it

Islands surface through Fortnite’s in-game Discover system and through island codes players can enter directly. Nothing is downloaded separately — a player already in Fortnite moves into a creator-made island the same way they move between any other mode. Discovery is the part most islands underinvest in, and the part we plan for first.

Three ways we build on Fortnite

( _01 )

Persistent islands

A persistent game with its own loop, built to be returned to rather than visited once.

( _02 )

Campaign game modes

A mechanic designed around a launch, a drop or a season, live for a defined window and measured against it.

( _03 )

Creator collaborations

Islands launched alongside creators whose audiences already play Fortnite, so the island opens to players rather than to an empty lobby.

Fortnite, answered

What is UEFN?

Unreal Editor for Fortnite is Epic Games’ official toolset for creating custom islands and game modes that run inside Fortnite. It uses a purpose-built version of Unreal Editor together with Verse, Epic’s scripting language for the platform.

Do players need to download anything to play a Fortnite island?

No. Islands run inside Fortnite. A player who already has Fortnite installed enters an island from the Discover menu or by entering its island code. There is no separate app, store listing or install step.

How do players discover a Fortnite island?

Through Fortnite’s in-game Discover surface, through island codes shared outside the game, and through creators playing the island for their own audiences. Discovery is a distribution problem, not a build problem, and it needs budget of its own.

Can an island be updated after it launches?

Yes. Islands can be patched, extended and re-themed after launch. That is why we treat launch as the beginning of live operations rather than the end of the project.
